Last year, I was worried about the state of my career.

This is fairly common for freelancers (or at least, for me) and so this isn't a pity post. However, it was the autumn and I was looking over my diary for 2025. I didn't at that point have any directing work confirmed - and I still don't!

This was making me ask myself whether I was still an artist in my own right. Was I exclusively a teacher now? I absolutely love teaching and facilitating, but at this point in my life, there are other goals on my radar that I don't want to lose in amongst the teaching.

So I came up with "Always An Artist." Every working day of 2025, I am going to do something creative. These things can be big or small, complete or unfinished, stand alone or part of another project ... the point is to be always making stuff.

I'm also keen to spread the challenges across all the art forms I work in: directing, choreography, writing, facilitation. One day might be an extract of script, another might be a few bars of choreography, and then I might make a mood board for a directing concept. I'm excited to find out.
