Always An Artist - Week 7
A few tweaks to the programme

This week, I focussed my tasks onto two projects.
I did some further research for my latest production concept, and I finally made up the mood board, which you see above. It's for a Shakespeare play, and I'll do a deep dive another day. The concept is actually part of an application for an open call, and I want to see if I'm successful before I share the details. I do love this concept though. The research was from a book called Watling Street by John Higgs. I really enjoyed the chapter I read; it's exactly the kind of anecdotal history that I like. I'm going to go back and read the whole book at some point.
My other tasks were continuing my choreography commission. The piece will go into a weekend of performances for Surreal Solihull, celebrating their new exhibition. I've been using automatic drawing techniques to create the routine and it's been a lot of fun. The performance is in a couple of weeks, so I've got to knuckle down and get it all ready.
I gave this blog post the subtitle "a few tweaks" because if you only read the first half of this update, you wouldn't know that I directed two performances this week. I ran some half term workshops at my local theatre, which culminated in short performances for the students' families. This challenge has definitely helped me to stay creative as part of my overall workload, but I am finding that the creative tasks feel somewhat separated from the rest of my work. I'm hoping to find ways to make them more integrated as I go along. This might take a little thought, but I want to define what counts as a "creative task" in order to draw these strands together.
