Always An Artist - Week 6

I really should come up with some other names for the blog updates

Always An Artist - Week 6

This week's tasks: progressing several ongoing projects.

I went back to continue a mood board and it went in an entirely new direction. I am reminded of previous comments about the benefits of giving an idea time to breathe. It's very rare that your first thought is actually your best thought (despite what Jake says in Brooklyn 99), and I'm grateful when there's enough time to let things work through several stages.

I do go back and forth on what is an appropriate timeline for making work, because it seems like it's either 2 months or five years, and neither of those is ideal. It would be great to find a happy medium.

I did a bit more doodling for my dance commission, and then later in the week, I started to turn the doodles into dancing. I had a great time. It's very messy and undefined at the moment, but I've got some bits that I like, and a structure is emerging. Again, breathing room in the process.

I would actually love it if more art could be made on a part-time working structure. I think that would serve lots of people well. There would be a lot to work out, but I'm in favour of it.

One day, I just played the piano. It was a good stretch of the muscles, trying to remember songs I wrote when I was sixteen, and pieces I learnt to play at school. On a similar musical theme, I did lots of planning and searching for appropriate music to soundtrack multiple youth shows that are coming up soon. I'm glad that I'm the type of person to treat all artistic endeavours with equal care, but it would save me a bit of time if I could care less about a few of them.

I don't know how I'm going to fit in these tasks over the next few weeks as performances and technical rehearsals dominate my schedule, but that's sort of the point. Wish me luck!
